ClubSport and Renaissance ClubSport Are Fit To Be Green
Pleasanton, California – April 10, 2008
Leisure Sports announced today that it is taking strides to make its fitness resorts and hotels
green. Renaissance ClubSport in Walnut Creek was the first hotel to be green certified by Contra
Costa County following the implementation of green initiatives set by Leisure Sports for its
fitness resorts and hotels in California, Nevada and Oregon.
With six properties under the ClubSport and Renaissance ClubSport brand the cumulative efforts have resulted in substantial energy savings. For example; by switching out 400 watt metal halide bulbs in the gymnasiums and sport courts with fluorescent lights these facilities have cut lighting power consumption by 50% in these areas.
Along with using more energy efficient lights at each property they've also instituted recycling paper, cardboard, cans and bottles. Water conservation measures have also been implemented by replacing grass lawns with artificial turf and low or no water landscaping and the installation of low-flow showers, toilets and urinals.
"Our members have a real passion for environmental issues and they help us take steps towards conservation. They use the recycle bins, bring reusable water bottles to avoid using disposable cups and elect to use the lower flow showers. Those are small steps, but we all know small steps add up," said Ralph Rajs, Vice President Operations at Leisure Sports.
