Pleasanton, CA – December 17, 2003
Leisure Sports Inc., a California-based company has signed a Letter of Intent with Aliso Viejo-based
Parker Properties and its partner CIGNA Investments, Inc. to purchase six acres to develop a 175-room,
full-service hotel and world-class fitness resort. The property will be located within the final planned
phase of Summit Office Campus, at the corner of Aliso Viejo Parkway and Enterprise in the city of Aliso
Viejo, California.
"We are thrilled to welcome Leisure Sports' hotel and fitness resort concept as our first hotel in Aliso Viejo," states Bill Phillips, Mayor of Aliso Viejo. "After visiting the Renaissance ClubSport in Walnut Creek, I was thoroughly impressed and convinced it would be a much needed amenity for our community and a catalyst to attract new business and residents to Aliso Viejo."
Phillips further noted the development is consistent with the new Aliso Viejo General Plan and that Summit is a perfect location as it is centrally located and nearby the Aliso Viejo Town Center, visible from the San Joaquin Hills 73 Corridor and close in proximity to the residential communities.
Leisure Sports is scheduled to break ground on its resort in the summer of 2004 and open late 2005/early 2006.
"With more than one million square feet of office space in development at Summit, the new hotel and club property will be an attractive amenity for its tenants," says Executive Vice President for Leisure Sports, Scott Pickert. "The business community and local residents will have an upscale fitness facility, full-service day spa, valuable meeting space and accommodations for out-of-town guests, all conveniently located within one facility."
"Leisure Sports' concept of combining a great, yet affordable hotel with an upscale fitness facility is perfect for meeting the needs of businesses and residents of South Orange County," comments Russ Parker, Parker Properties' executive vice president in charge of development and marketing. "The hotel adds a true sense of place and complements the "work, live, play" motto both the city and Summit have embraced over the years. The hotel and fitness resort will be an enhanced part of our final stretch of development at Summit, which will also include an additional five (5) office buildings totaling 720,000 square feet and an additional restaurant. The first phase of new office buildings will be available for occupancy in early 2006."
The new property will be styled after the innovative, highly successful Renaissance ClubSport Hotel & Fitness Resort located in Walnut Creek, California. The Walnut Creek property was developed and is managed by Leisure Sports and is also affiliated with Marriott International by a franchise license and co-branding agreement for the Renaissance brand name. The contemporary, boutique-style hotel includes 175 rooms, an 85,000-square-foot fitness resort complex, a full-service restaurant and luxurious day spa.
The upscale fitness resort will house the latest and finest in fitness and sports equipment, innovative adult and children's programs plus many value-added services and enhanced amenities all in one location, which is made possible because of the joint sports club and hotel development. Renaissance ClubSport in Walnut Creek is a successful example of this concept. By combining two properties development costs are trimmed by economizing on land use and by sharing facilities and amenities sports clubs and hotels each would need to provide.
"From the inception of Summit Office Campus in 1997, our development team has known that businesses and the surrounding community would value a mixed-use hotel development that provides conveniences, amenities and high-quality service," states Lee Redmond, President of Parker Properties. "We are extremely pleased that Leisure Sports, Inc. will bring its hotel concept to Aliso Viejo and make Summit its second location. The addition of the "fitness resort" concept will bring an increased value to the city of Aliso Viejo, the business community and Summit's tenants."
Leisure Sports Inc., a privately held company, is a prominent developer and operator of high-end sports clubs and hotels. Based in California, the company has pioneered the "fitness resort" concept by building clubs that combine function with aesthetics and practicality with luxury. The company currently operates clubs in California, Nevada and Oregon serving over 30,000 members. For more information on Leisure Sports or ClubSport fitness resorts, visit www.clubsports.com..
