ClubSport, Renaissance ClubSport, and The Studio Fitness Clubs Launch Colin’s Crew Fundraising Effort to Support Children with Bleeding Disorders
Leisure Sports announced today that Colin’s Crew is the focus of its annual fundraising efforts. Each year the company selects a local or national charitable organization to support and this year has chosen to support the National Hemophilia Foundation and Camp Hemotion through Colin’s Crew.
The fundraiser will bring awareness and support to a rare condition that has hit close to home for the company and community: Hemophilia, a bleeding disorder that presently has no cure.
The Colin’s Crew fundraiser was named after Colin Watson, a one-year-old who was diagnosed with severe Hemophilia Type-A. He, along with his family and friends, are attempting to raise $50,000 to send 33 kids to Camp Hemotion, a residential summer camp for young people ages 7-20. Organized by the Hemophilia Foundation of Northern California, Camp Hemotion welcomes 100 youth living with bleeding disorders, known carriers, or their siblings to this annual weeklong camp. This unique camp gives kids the opportunity to meet others with this rare disease, play in a safe environment, and develop a sense of independence.
“This fundraiser hits close to home for the Leisure Sports family as Colin is the son of one of our associates, Erin Watson, Senior Vice President of Leisure Sports,” said Ralph Rajs Executive Vice President of Leisure Sports. “Bleeding disorders are relatively unknown, and we felt that it was important to highlight this condition and do what we can to help them enjoy activities that most kids take for granted.”
The company has set up a variety of way for people to participate including:
- Donate to the United Hemophilia Foundation
- Purchase a Colin’s Crew T-Shirt
- Join The Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk in Oakland on May 6, 2018
- Dine at Sauced BBQ in Livermore & Walnut Creek, CA on April 17 – 10% of sales will go to Colin’s Crew
Colin was born with this genetic disorder caused by a missing or defective FVII, a clotting protein, which is essential in the formation of clotting blood. People with severe Hemophilia Type-A experience bleeds that cannot clot properly following an injury and may have frequent spontaneous bleeding episodes, often into their joints and muscles.
